Two hundred pounds per stack is plenty—until it isn’t. Each upgrade adds 50 lb per stack, so you can stop stalling out and keep the gains coming.
Go from 200 to 250 with one upgrade, or push all the way to 300 with two—whether your machine has a single stack or dual stacks (select models). Add them when you buy the machine and installation is painless. Wait until later, and you’ll have a bit of a project on your hands.
Studios, gyms, households—it doesn’t matter. If you’re pushing heavy or more than one person’s using the machine, you’ll be glad you’ve got the extra weight to play with.
